Healthcare Information for Children – from both to 5 years.

Healthcare visitors are based at Aston Heath Centre but provide a clinic at Bloomsbury Heath Centre on Wednesdays between 09:30 and 12:00. They are there to weigh babies and to help with any queries you may have concerning your child’s wellbeing.

Usually, The Practice Nurse gives the childhood immunisations and these are booked appointments. The doctor has booked appointments for eight week checks. Immunisations recommended for under 5’s at present as follows:

8 weeks

  • (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) Polio & Hib vaccine, 1st dose
  • Pneumococcal vaccine, 1st dose
  • Rotavirus vaccine, 1st dose

12 weeks

  • (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) Polio & Hib, 2nd dose
  • Meningitis C Vaccine, 1st dose
  • Rotavirus vaccine, 2nd dose

16 weeks

(Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) Polio & Hib vaccine, 3rd dose

Pneumococcal vaccine, 2nd dose

12-13 months

  • Hib & Meningitis C booster
  • Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) 1st dose
  • Pneumococcal vaccine, 3rd dose

3 years and 4 months, or soon after (Pre-school booster)

  • (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis) Polio.
  • Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) vaccine 2mnbd dose.
  • A minor could need not delay an Immunisation.
  • Take your child and ask if you are in doubt.
  • A fever or mild irritability within 24 hours of an immunisation is common. Give Calpol in the recommended dose.
  • A Small swelling may develop at the Immunisation site. This common and should soon settle without treatment.
